EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Participation in extra-curricular activities takes equal importance alongside academic performance at NAIS. Through participation in these events, students enrich their school days.

In addition to physical development and the exploration of interests, students learn the thrill of challenge and competition, the importance of concentration, the spirit of teamwork and a sense of accomplishment.

North American International School provides a rich extra-curricular program that supports student’s all-round development, providing opportunities for students to develop talents and explore new interests. Activities include both individual pursuits and team building activities for students from grade 1 onwards. Students may choose from a wide variety of activities that can include: Drama, Quran Recitation, Calligraphy, Best out of Waste, Model United Nations, Aerobics, Ballet, Swimming, etc.

COUNSELING

The NAIS Counselors ensure all students receive the necessary social and emotional support to recognize and unlock their potential. The counseling program promotes learning and provides a developmentally appropriate and accessible program for all members of the NAIS community. Counselors collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and community members as part of a support team that optimizes student achievement. Counselors maintain an ongoing commitment to professional growth by staying current in best practices and participating in program review and implementation.

CAREER GUIDANCE

In face of the unprecedented pace of changes worldwide with the advent of information technology and explosive growth of knowledge, our education system aims to develop students’ knowledge, adaptability, creativity, independent thinking and life-long learning capabilities so that they can be better prepared to make informed and responsible choices and thus be able to make the best of the opportunities ahead.

Towards this end, more opportunities under the new senior secondary curriculum implemented since September 2015 and multiple pathways have been opened for young people to flourish their knowledge. Our school curriculum, embedding elements of life-long learning and generic skills into all subjects, at the same time aims at whole-person development for every student, fostering their self-understanding and offering other learning experiences to support students’ progression for further studies and career development, as well as actualization of personal goals.

The Career Counselor undertakes:

  1. Career Assessment: Involves administration and interpretation of a variety of formal or informal techniques or instruments (whether qualitative or quantitative) to help students gain an understanding of their skills, abilities, attitudes, interests, achievements, knowledge, experiences, personal style, learning style, work values, and lifestyle needs.

  2. Career Guidance: An inclusive term which describes a range of interventions including career education and counseling that help students to develop and use knowledge, skills, and attitudes in making decisions on their study and/or work options and life roles.

  3. Career Information: A broad term, referring to information (including printed, electronic, personal contacts and other resources) that assists the process of life planning.

  4. Career-Related Experiences: Career-related experiences enable students to obtain up-to-date knowledge about the world of work.
